Eritrean Underground Church – summer 2012

Flag Map of Eritrea

Thanks to the generous donations of all our supporters, we’ve repeatedly been able to send substantial amounts of money to help persecuted Christians in the underground church in Eritrea. Just recently we sent another sizeable donation, and we want to share with you just what an amazing impact you’re having on the lives of Eritrean Christians.

It’s so amazing to see the difference between the reports we received from the underground church just last year [read them here] compared to the reports we’ve been receiving this year. God is so good! He is moving in Eritrea through your prayers and your donations.

If you haven’t read the letter from last year yet, please take a look at it first, then continue reading below for a report from our Head of Africa Missions about how the Eritrean church is currently doing. Also please help us continue to fulfill this important mission through your prayers and financial support. Your gifts make such a huge difference in the lives of persecuted Christians. Thank you so much for the love and generosity you’ve already shown.

From our Head of Africa Missions:

Dear brothers and sisters who support and pray for the believers in Eritrea,

Recently I talked with our church leaders in Eritrea; they are doing great by the power and the grace of God. Even though the persecution and the problems are still very tough, they are worshiping God in the midst of all the hardships, because as Paul said “we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37. So even under all these pressures, our brothers and sisters are preaching the gospel for their persecutors, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 8: 38-39. Dear brothers and sisters, here is one email I got from one of our church leaders in Eritrea. The email should be confidential, so I only attached the part that can not be used as a target for our people. Here is the email:

Hi Pastor

As I told you before God is doing many great things among us. A number of souls are being delivered from the bondage of darkness and coming to the Lord. And some are being healed from their sicknesses. But the greatest miracle is we are worshiping God in the midst of our enemies (Satan and our persecutors) &#38 our lord is delivering us from their hands.

By the support we got from you we helped many needy people among us. Some are orphans, and some are widows &#38 other special cases (for example this year we helped 15 families. Always we give half of the money we get to the needy and the rest we use it for ministry, salary &#38 house rents.)

We have to change the place of gathering from time to time to hide from the persecutors, and that is why we always rent many places to minister to our congregation. We haven’t enough money but we are running by what we have. At this time we need more houses in Asmara and Keren, but we couldn’t cover the house rent (we are using many houses of our brothers, but we need more &#38 the house rent is too expensive for us). We are using what we have properly by the fear of the lord.

Please transfer our blessing and heartfelt thanks to the supporters.

Remain blessed!
